When Should You Book Your Newborn Photography Session in Maidenhead?
First of all … Congratulations!
Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of the most incredible moments you will ever experience. Those tiny fingers, sleepy cuddles, the way they curl into your arms, and the little details that change so quickly! These are the moments you will want to remember forever.
One of the most common questions I’m asked by expectant parents is:
“When should we book our newborn photography session?”
The simple answer is: the earlier, the better, ideally during pregnancy.
At Moon & Me Studio, I specialise in beautifully styled newborn photography in the comfort of your home, combining natural family moments with timeless portraits. All in the comfort of your home in Maidenhead and the surrounding areas.
When is the best time to book newborn photos?
The best time to enquire about your newborn photography session is usually during your pregnancy, often around the 6-7 month mark of your pregnancy or once you feel ready to start planning those first precious memories.
Booking ahead means you can secure a space around your due date and gives us plenty of time to chat about what you would like from your session.
Of course, babies do not always arrive according to plan! Your due date is only an estimate, so I keep flexibility around your expected arrival and we can arrange the perfect time once your baby is here.
When should newborn photos actually take place?
For newborn photography, although there is no strict deadline, 5-14 days is ideal.
The early weeks are full of tiny details:
little fingers and toes
sleepy cuddles
newborn stretches
swaddling
the way your baby fits perfectly in your arms
But those first few weeks are also a huge adjustment. You are recovering, learning your baby's routines, and finding your feet as a new family.
A newborn session is about capturing connection, not perfection. Whether your baby is a few days old or a little older, the most important thing is documenting this special chapter of your family's story.
What if my baby has already arrived?
Please don't worry! You haven't missed your chance.
Families contact me after their baby is born because they weren't sure whether they were "too late" for newborn photographs.
The answer is almost always: get in touch.
Every baby is different, and some of my favourite images come from sessions with babies who are a little older. Those extra weeks can bring new expressions, more eye contact, and beautiful moments of connection.
Do we need to prepare our home?
One of the biggest worries parents have is whether their home needs to be perfectly tidy before a newborn session.
It doesn't.
Your home is part of your family's story. The nursery you lovingly prepared, the sofa where you spend hours cuddling, the little corners where everyday memories are already being made. These details help make your photographs personal and meaningful.
Before your session, I’ll guide you on simple things that can help, such as choosing areas with beautiful natural light, but there is no expectation that your home needs to look like a magazine.
What happens if my baby cries during the session?
Babies cry. Babies need feeding. Babies need changing. Babies need cuddles.
That is completely normal.
Lifestyle newborn photography is relaxed and baby led. We take our time, work around your baby's needs, and allow plenty of breaks for feeding, settling, and comforting.
There is no pressure for your baby to sleep the entire time. Some of the most beautiful photographs happen during quiet cuddles with parents.
Why choose an in-home newborn photography session?
A luxury lifestyle newborn session focuses on the connection between you and your baby.
Rather than creating photographs that feel staged or unfamiliar, we focus on the genuine connection between you and your baby, creating images that feel warm, timeless and personal to your family.
Alongside those beautiful everyday moments, your session can also include carefully styled portraits of your newborn. Capturing all the details you will want to remember forever, from their tiny fingers and toes to their sleepy cuddles and delicate features.
The result is a collection of photographs that tells the full story of this precious season of life: the love, the connection, and the little details that make your family unique.
Your home becomes the backdrop, your baby sets the pace, and your memories become the focus.
If you are expecting a baby and would love to capture this special time in a relaxed, natural way, I would love to hear from you.
The best time to get in touch is during pregnancy, but if your baby has already arrived, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Let's create photographs that tell the story of your family exactly as it is in this beautiful season of life.
